My passion for connecting people through art and design led me to explore the idea of a single kind act sparking a wave of kindness throughout a community. To investigate this concept, I designed a community art project where participants could exchange kind acts for handmade goods. I launched this initiative with a pop-up booth, offering my creations in exchange for special tokens on which people documented their acts of kindness, completed or promised.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of generosity during these “Tokens of Kindness” experiments, I used p5.js to create a data visualization that captured the essence of all the kindness exchanged.
This project formed the core of my research thesis at Iowa State University.
