Tune in to any language in the world by turning this knob. The tuner will automatically hone in on languages being spoken in your proximity, but you may choose other languages to listen to depending on your mood.
In a conversation and can't keep up? Hit the "Translate" button and Live Translation mode will pick up your responses from the built-in microphones, translate them to another language of your choosing, and broadcast to another person using the combination microphone / speakers on the outside of the ear pieces.
Dying to learn a new language? Press the "Immerse" button to immerse yourself in a foreign language without having to spend the money to travel abroad. Immerse mode live translates everything that Translatus picks up and feeds it to you in a language of your choice. You won't get the same cultural experience, but Translatus will help you pick up enough of a new language to converse like a pro when you do get the chance to travel abroad. Immersion mode works the other way around too. You can always choose to be immersed in your native language when in a foreign country.
In case of emergency, push the "Native" button. Native mode returns you to the language you know best.
Ambient mode allows Translatus to pick up a wide range of conversation around you. Use Immersion mode for Translatus to make the conversation around you a learning experience, or to help you understand what is happening in other languages.
For one-on-one conversations, choose Conversation mode. Push the "Conversation" button to have Translatus focus on the person you're currently facing in conversation. Use Conversation mode in tandem with Translate to have a real-time translated conversation — most helpful in emergency situations.
When you just want to listen without interaction, Translatus gives a visual cue to others that you want to be left alone. Push the "solo" button to retract the telescoping interactive earpieces and make translatus look like regular headphones. Solo mode is good for studying another language in a quiet area.
The beta version of Translatus will be available to test in 2015. Estimated cost is $899 per set. Beta testers will receive a Translatus kit, which includes:
