Editor’s Pick Award
I won another Editor’s Pick award on Minted.com for my greeting card design submission to their Heart to Heart Classroom Valentine Card Challenge. My entry was one of 762 entries and is one of 118 winners.
Special Award
I also won a special “For the Boys” award for this entry. Although I’m honored that they chose my design, I do not believe in unnecessarily gendering inanimate objects. I did not intend this design to be marketed towards boys. I wanted to create a card for kids who liked to play and/or watch sports. My oldest niece is 13 and plays ALL the sports—I could see her handing out this card to her teammates. All of my designs are for kids (and parents of kids) of all genders.
I also think it’s a little funny that they awarded a gendered award to somebody who identifies as nonbinary…
Even though I’m annoyed by the title and intention behind the award, I’ll take it! Again, I’m proud that they picked my work. My winning the award and having another design for sale at least marginally increases the queer representation on Minted.
Here is my winning entry: “We Make a Great Team”
I’m thrilled to be a part of Minted’s artist community and look forward to other opportunities with them. Through them, I’ve had designs picked up by major retailers. I participate in Minted’s design challenges to build my illustration skills and to help them include more queer voices in their offerings. I hope they try harder to include a more diverse group of artists, ideologies, and styles than are currently represented in their collections.
“We Make a Great Team” is for sale in my Minted store.

I’m stoked to see my design launched!
