I’m officially part of the Fusion Art 5th Annual Colorful Abstractions Exhibit (three parts)!
You know how I’ve been playing around with paint lately? Well, all of that experimentation paid off!
Fusion Art selected three of my mixed media pieces for their 5th Annual Colorful Abstractions online exhibition. My pieces were 3 of the 210 chosen from more than 550 entries. Below is more info about each of the individual pieces.
Engulfed
Engulfed is an artistic depiction of depression featured on scarves that are meant to spark conversations about mental health. This piece is digital / mixed media (high-flow acrylics, watercolor, ink, and glitched images) and is part of a series of scarves depicting mental health conditions.

Conduits i
Conduits explores the relationship and interaction between different spaces through the use of several media. Each piece starts with three or four distinct areas, and through the method of dropping water and media onto the page, I establish conduits between areas, allowing media to mix within each distinct area to create something new.

I used watercolor, metallic ink, and Bombay ink for this experiment. In addition to being featured in the Fusion Arts Colorful Abstractions exhibition, the entire Conduits series (6 pieces) are part of the Artlink post-card popup exhibition.

Formerly Occupied Spaces
I created an ethereal, layered world from spaces that my husband and I had formerly occupied to make a new space for us as a way to connect when we were apart for three years. I considered all of the other people who occupied these spaces in the past, including those whose land we stole to create all of the states which I’ve inhabited. I used a mixture of physical media, digital painting, and glitched photographs of the spaces to create this piece.

This piece won the best in show award for the 2015 Art Inspired Exhibition. Read more about Formerly Occupied Spaces on my portfolio website.
