Last week I mentioned I planned to feature each of my wedding invite suites in the upcoming Wednesdays. Each of these features will come with a free downloadable printable item. First up, is the Claire suite.
I designed this suite as an affordable alternative to custom handlettered invitations. If you know me, you know that I don’t like using handwriting fonts. I feel like I’m committing a deadly design sin when I use one. Instead, I try to handletter things (such as my blog header). However, I did not want to get in the business of handwriting people’s wedding invitations. That’s time consuming and expensive. Instead, I scoured the internet for a couple of well-designed script handbrushed typefaces. I found approximately four. The Claire invite uses one of them.
What makes a decent handbrushed typeface? For starters, it should be lettered by somebody who knows what they’re doing (downstrokes should be thick and upstrokes thin). You should get at least two options for each character.
Anyway, design snobbery aside, I really liked the typeface I found and used on Claire. I focused on making the letters very large (display) and contrasting the handbrushed look with small and simple typography for the other information.
Claire is available in plain (solid colors — as shown above), watercolor (directly below), and abstract art (bottom image). You can customize your colors, wording, and sizes. Custom paintings are not available at this time (ain’t nobody got time for that!). If you message me, however, I can work to change the color of the abstract or watercolor paintings. The paintings with multiple colors are more difficult to change, but I can get close on a custom color match on the watercolor ones.
As with the rest of these suites, Claire has a matching RSVP postcard, A2 RSVP, Save the Date postcard, A2 & A7 Save the Date Cards, envelope liners (in watercolor or abstract art), table numbers, thank yous (A2 folded or flat), customized address block, and monogram.
