I really enjoy doing my radio show, and hope to put together a really awesome playlist for next week.
Here is yesterday’s playlist.
I actually started a DJchimes tumblr because I thought it would be fun to do little graphic design experiments with my playlists and present them somewhere. Plus, I’ve had the tumblr account forever and never use it, so finally — a use for it. Also, I might actually be able to incorporate these experiments into my research for my MFA thesis. More on that to come hopefully soon. The experiment includes only using imagery that is within 10 feet of me, using only my playlist (and the date), and only using one font family. I also limited the time that I worked on this one. If I start researching what I’m hoping to research, these experiments will have more and more rules placed upon them, but for now, I am producing my weekly playlist in this form.
Here is the playlist on Spotify for those of you who have it (though I believe you can launch the web player without an account?). I might try to create the playlists in Soundcloud in the future, but that’s just ONE more thing I have to do. If any of you are hindered by Spotify and would like to listen, I will do it. Please let me know! I also still want to figure out how to record my show live because that would be more fun to put in the blog than just a regular playlist.

If you have suggestions, please let me know in the comments (and you can suggest more than one song!). I confess that I spent most of 2013 listening to older stuff — not that there’s anything wrong with that, other than the fact that I missed a bunch of new releases. It’s hard to stay on top of everything. I was busy trying to catch up on Lou Reed’s catalogue when I realized I hadn’t listened to much of anything new this year.
Anyway, thanks again to those who have been listening or otherwise supportive! You can catch my show streaming online, Not Your Dad’s Radio Show, at 7 AM CST on Wednesdays. Likely I will not be doing a show after the 20th of this month until January 14 because the station is student-run, and is in the basement of a residence hall, which will be closed over break. I will keep everybody updated via the DJchimes twitter.
