Yesterday I got up at 5:20 and managed to make it to campus by 6:40 to prepare for my first radio show on 88.5 KURE Ames Alternative.
My show is called Not Your Dad’s Radio Show, and it’s mostly indie and classic rock, with some electronic and a few guilty pleasures here and there. It’s at 7 AM CST on Wednesdays. I think the first broadcast went well, other than me leaving the mic on for the first few songs. I’m hoping it will go smoother next time, and that I can even start doing fancy things like spinning actual vinyl and playing music behind my banter. My week-long experience at broadcasting camp in 2001 is finally coming to fruition.
Here’s my playlist from yesterday.
I’m going to find out if I can record my show somehow, and not by standing next to the radio with a cassette tape ready, waiting for my show to come on the air.
Let me know if you’ve got any suggestions. I have to stick to my show’s format, and things that typically get played on the radio aren’t really supposed to be played. The song needs to be owned by the radio station or myself in order to play it on air. Oh, and it has to be FCC clean (no swearing!).
You can listen live at 88.5 KURE Ames Alternative. You can see all the playlists here, and/or follow me for live-tweeting during my broadcasts at DJchimes.
Also, I joined the KURE DJs facebook group yesterday, and saw this gem that they shared. It’s The Final Countdown in major key, and it’s a bit ridiculous.

So in high school I played lead guitar and backup vocals in a band. We played The Final Countdown at our high school’s big pep really in front of a few thousand people. It did not lead to a record deal. 🙁
This sounds so peppy! Someday when I’m king of a small island country, I’ll hire a lot of brass to play this composition whenever I enter my court.

Mike @ Midwestern BiteWHY CAN’T I “LIKE” COMMENTS? I would probably hire a trumpeter to play “wanna be startin’ something” if I were queen.
