Sweet Tunes Thursday [78]: Arcade Fire “Reflektor”

Last week I was compiling all of my Sweet Tunes Thursday features for my DJ chimes page, and discovered that I’ve done Sweet Tunes Thursday 77 (now 78) times.

It’s pretty cool to think that I’ve fairly consistently done this feature since I started in 2010. Granted, I think the only people that read this feature are Mark (which is essentially like having my mom read my blog), one of my IRL BFFs, and my friend Joanna’s husband who usually gets a kick out of these posts and takes over her blog to feature a song or two. But, I love this feature, so even if nobody read it, I’d keep writing it.

I can’t express how pumped I am for the new Arcade Fire album (out on October 29).

Arcade Fire is a fairly large band that is somewhat theatrical in nature. They don’t have a specific sound, other than their signature vocalists, so it’s always interesting to see what their latest work sounds like. Truth be told, I kind of hated them for a while. It took a lot for me to get past the vocalists, and this is coming from somebody whose all-time favorite band is Smashing Pumpkins. I eventually came around and enjoy their work.

I didn’t realize they had a new album coming out until a couple of weeks ago when they were the musical guest on SNL. Normally I don’t watch SNL, but I was channel surfing and saw that Tina Fey was hosting, so I had to watch. I love that woman. Arcade Fire played their new single that’s got the album’s namesake: “Reflektor”. It was stuck in my head for days. Maybe it’s the disquoesque dance beat. Maybe it was the keyboard. I don’t know. But I love it.

Here’s their official video. It’s artsy. And black and white. And a little bit creepy.

Are you excited for any new releases coming soon?

I read these posts! (Sometimes late, but better then never, right?) Now I’m curious to hear your thoughts about the album. Have you listened to the whole thing? I think the single might be my least favorite track off the album…
