I met Amy Sedaris at her lecture last night and she’s just as inappropriate in person as you would expect.
(Words of wisdom from one of my favorite comedians and crafter extraordinaires.)
Amy Sedaris came to ISU last evening for a lecture.
She was talking about her new book, Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People. It’s a book of crafts that is kind of a satire on real crafting — and may be offensive to real crafters (whom she refers to as ugly people). But it is really freaking entertaining and awesome.
She demonstrated how to make a Crafty Candle Salad (look it up folks, I’m not dirty enough to post it here). And she discussed how she has dreams of making a Jerri Blank Christmas special.PLEASE DO.
I got to meet her … and she signed my book. Which was exciting. And I didn’t quite eff it up the way I did when I met Joey Jordison. I told her I appreciated her chapter on injuries because I break so many needles while sewing that I considered wearing my glasses as a safety precaution to protect myself from the shrapnel.
Anywho, here is my dorky photo of me with Amy that the guy behind me in line took.
Also, it has been said that we look like sisters here. She’s my mom’s age, but so doesn’t look it (not that my mom is old, but she doesn’t look Hollywood young!)
And the page she signed — in a kind of inappropriate way.
I shall cherish this for life. LIFE.

[…] I had half a mind to get rid of ALL of my crafting supplies when I moved last month, but I decided to keep some of them. I was getting kind of burnt out on what I was making. I needed to find something new and interesting and fun to do with these craft supplies. I decided no more crafting for OTHER people; it’s okay to craft for yourself. Sometimes. And the stuff you make doesn’t have to be useful (these are actually useful things I learned from Amy Sedaris’s book!). […]
