Obsessed with Wonderland

I’ve been obsessed with Wonderland by Momo ever since it came out. So, I’ve started working on two new projects with what I’ve got left.

I bought a jelly roll a while back and decided to make Thea’s Puzzle Quilt (a pattern by Amy Butler). I’ve got the middle section done, so I just need to create the border of solid color that goes around it — and for Mark’s sake, I’m going to do brown instead of pink (apparently he hates pink … and I’m hoping that both him and the quilt stick around for a while!). Then I’m going to add an oatmeal-colored fabric for the border and possibly the backing.

Above is a close-up of my favorite block. I love how the scissors pattern is echoed a bit smaller in the patchwork fabric.

I’ve also been wanting a DayRunner for a while, but I didn’t want to just buy a pre-made one. It’s not as fun if you do things the easy way! So I bought the “guts” for a DayRunner and figured out a pattern (which I will post eventually after I do a testrun with it on the road). Of course, I used Wonderland. Here’s how it turned out.

I need to sew a button on the front yet and I need to add some binder rings and sew those in, but otherwise, I’m loving it.

scrapbuster hello betty pillow

Again, going through my scrap box and found some scraps that Adria had given me from her Hello Betty quilt. I had enough left to make a large block and I decided to finally cover the 18″x18″ pillow form I’ve had lying around.

I did another wonky log cabin block because those are just too easy and addictive.

Here’s the finished product. It doesn’t go with anything I own other than the chair in which I photographed it.

Metric Butt-ton of Quilt Blocks!

I took today off since I had to take my mancandy to the airport at an obscenely early time and wanted to sleep/clean/catch up on crafting the rest of the day.

Needless to say, I didn’t get a whole lot of cleaning done (I did put the dishes away!), but I got a little sleeping and a LOT of crafting done. I finished off both sets of wonky log cabin blocks I’ve been working in — one with my repro fabrics, and the other with Wonderland and Amy Butler fabrics that I’ve been hoarding. I have 17 of the repro block and 24 of the Amy Butler/Wonderland blocks. I’m going to make a queen-sized quilt with the AB/W blocks, but not sure what I’m going to do with the repro blocks.

Eventually I’ll make these into quilts, but until then, they’re just pretty patchwork pieces.

lil zipper bag!

last night I decided to get the sewing machine out in the first time in a long time! (yay! I love sewing!) I haven’t had time to sew in the past few weeks because I was getting ready for Market Day, which was especially sad because my friend Adria had just given me two HUGE bags of stash fabric and some scraps from her mermaid quilt. I’ve been pining over my sewing machine.

Anywho… me and the sewing machine totally hung out last night.

I’v e been wanting to make this bag ever since I discovered the moda bake shop last week (thanks to Adria, of course). For those of you who don’t know what Moda is…it’s a fabric manufacturer. The bake shop gives “recipes” for different things to do with their fabric. Kind of self-serving…but hey, they have incredible step-by-step tutorials, so I love it!

I got out the scraps from Adria’s mermaid quilt last night, a chunk of yellow fabric and some felt stuff that I figured would work just fine for “batting” since I’m not really making a quilt…and went to town. It was pretty fun. All the while I was watching Sixteen Candles on Encore.

Here’s what I came up with so far. Nothing too exciting. I need to go get some zippers and some more batting material so I can finish these. I have enough fabric to make a ton of these…but I was planning to make one for my mom and all my girlfriends. Although, I don’t know if they all like pink as much as I do.

Oh, um, did I mention this piece was my FIRST ATTEMPT AT QUILTING???? eeeee! It went pretty well. I don’t have a walking foot, but I’m going to get one now. I totally think I could quilt my hardcore quilt top!

Wonderland Quilt Tops

I posted a photo of one of these a while back, but here’s a couple of better photos. I think these do the tops better justice. I made these from 5 charm packs I bought from fatquartershop.com.

I’m scared to death to quilt these myself! I don’t want to ruin them. I want them quilted with fuschia thread. I have the fuschia dotty fabric and pink dotty fabric for the binding and seafoam green and a dusty pink for the backing fabrics…just need somebody with the skillz to finish them for me!

I want to keep this one for myself. I love the butterfly squares with the butterfly on the side flying away.

this one is cute too, but I might have to part with it.

I caught the quilting bug!

My friend Adria gave me the quilting bug (not to be confused with the Swine Flu — dear god I’m sick of hearing about that!)… so I’ve been buying fabrics and learning a little bit about piecework. First off: Piecework involves MATH. Not good for me. So far I’ve completed 3 quilt tops and only 1 of them turned out the way I wanted at the size I wanted — because I used precut squares.

I found an incredible line of fabric on fatquartershop.com called “Wonderland”. Adria had informed me of a pre-cut fabric sale and I got 5 “charm packs” (which incude 40 5-inch precut squares — enough for 2 lap quilts). I bought some material for the binding from this line too. I went cheap on the backing fabric and got it on sale (with a 20% off coupon as well) at my friend Adria’s fabric store Bear Paw Quilting. I got a grey, a natural ivory, a dusty pink and a seafoam green. I’m using the pink for sure. Not sure if I’ll use the grey or seafoam green for the back on this quilt.

Anyway, I’m such a hermit that I’ve been staying in on Friday nights and piecing together quilt tops. Lame. I know. I pieced together a “hardcore” quilt last weekend from a bunch of old Slipknot/Korn/Static X/Metallica/etc. t-shirts. This weekend I pieced together the first of the wonderland quilt tops. It went much faster because the fabric was precut and I didn’t have to sit and think about the math. I should really blog about the hardcore quilt separately, so I think I’ll do that later. It was a learning experience..that’s for sure.

Anyway, here’s some pictures of my quilt top and the fabrics that I’m in love with.

Here's my quilt top (and feet). I seriously need to quilt saying that I need to get my camera out and JUST DO IT.

Since the last picture is so crappy, I photoshopped together what my quilt should look like. Except this one is just 5x5 and mine is 10x10. I added the binding fabric in this image.
