<p>I forgot to mention yesterday that Mark bought a grill over the weekend.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7869" title="mark's grill" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2wnpx20kV1rt76upo1_5001.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>Okay. I might have lied about the &#8220;forgetting to mention&#8221; just there. If you didn&#8217;t notice the expiration date on the yogurt from yesterday &#8230; you probably didn&#8217;t know that I pre-scheduled that post. I knew I&#8217;d be too busy to blog this week! Yesterday and today is<a href="http://www.iowaffa.com/"> State FFA </a>and I&#8217;m working hard! So consider this my weekend recap.</p>
<p>But, we are officially grilling. I have a feeling this week&#8217;s grocery haul will have only items that go on the grill &#8230; and experimental items that we think might work on the grill. So far, steak and chicken with mushrooms and asparagus.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7871" title="steak" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4967.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="421" /></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7872" title="chicken" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4968.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="440" /></p>
<p>SO. EXCITED. And Barney approves.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7870" title="barnold palmer" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2wohiZO2L1rt76upo1_500.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>We also found a use for the kohlrabi that we got from our CSA and made a curry. Thanks to my friend <a href="http://www.stephadamo.com" target="_blank">Steph</a> for <a href="http://sugarcrafter.net/2010/07/05/kohlrabi-curry/" target="_blank">this recipe idea</a>. I loved how it turned out but I could do with or without the kohlrabi. It is definitely good base curry recipe though.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7873" title="kohrabi curry" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4965.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="461" /></p>
<p>And Saturday at about 9 PM my roomies and I decided to play <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_%28game%29" target="_blank">Risk</a>. And have some drinks. I&#8217;m apparently a very sore loser <del>when I&#8217;ve been drinking</del>. Needless to say we didn&#8217;t finish the game but we kept track of where everybody was so we can pick it up again this weekend.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7868" title="tumblr_m2v298ghES1rt76upo1_500" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2v298ghES1rt76upo1_500.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>Pre-pissed off losing.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7865" title="tumblr_m2v1ysKacQ1rt76upo1_500" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2v1ysKacQ1rt76upo1_500.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>I drank coffee with baileys to stay awake. We were up until 3 or 4 AM. Whoops!</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7867" title="south america and africa" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2v6k6Rl1N1rt76upo1_500.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>Mark was dominating (in red) for a while. Matt and I had an alliance against him, but I may have accidentally gotten greedy and broke it. Then things got ugly.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-7866" title="tumblr_m2v5xoZFeP1rt76upo1_500" src="http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tumblr_m2v5xoZFeP1rt76upo1_500.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>Even the sonic screwdriver couldn&#8217;t break Mark&#8217;s stride. Which leads me to this: Risk with little Daleks for pieces. Eh?</p>
<p>And I believe I promised you a tutorial. So here you go!</p>
<p>About 2 years ago, I became completely obsessed with wonky log cabin blocks.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s that? It&#8217;s this. <em>Except yours will hopefully come with straighter lines and better tension and correctly pressed seams &#8230; </em></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/4367001490_cb9e9ceb16.jpg" rel="lightbox[6765]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6766" title="wonky block" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/4367001490_cb9e9ceb16.jpg" alt="" width="435" /></a></p>
<div class="pin-it-btn-wrapper-shortcode "><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chimesdesign.com%2Fblog%2F2012%2F04%2F24%2Ftu-tu-tu-tuesday-wonky-log-cabin-quilt-blocks-and-a-quilt-top%2F&media=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chimesdesign.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F04%2Ftumblr_m2wnpx20kV1rt76upo1_5001.jpg&description=Weekend+Recap+%2B+Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday%3A+Wonky+Log+Cabin+Quilt+Blocks+and+a+Quilt+Top" count-layout="none" class="pin-it-button" ><img border="0" style="border:0;" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a></div>
<p>In case you didn&#8217;t know this, I am not a fan of traditional quilt blocks. I don&#8217;t think most of them go with the modern fabric patterns we have now.</p>
<p>Also, I don&#8217;t like to measure. Which doesn&#8217;t make for good traditional patchwork anyway. So how the hell do I make quilts? I improvise. Or use patterns that don&#8217;t require much skill with measuring and straight lines.</p>
<p>I came across <a href="http://www.quiltdad.com/2009/09/quilt-along-3-wonky-log-cabin-block.html" target="_blank">this tutorial from Quilt Dad</a> that shows a step-by-step way to make a wonky log cabin quilt block.</p>
<p>And then made a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/thechimes/4307547519/in/set-72157619732126784/" target="_blank">LOT of them</a> (seriously, click through this flickr gallery) &#8230; some might say I was obsessed.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s 2012. And I&#8217;m starting to turn these blocks into actual quilts. Here&#8217;s my latest quilt top. I&#8217;m going to add a 4-5&#8243; border of light pink around the edge and I&#8217;ve got 3 more blocks that I&#8217;m going to use on the back. And I&#8217;m planning to use the same light pink that I use for the border as the main backing fabric.</p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4509.jpg" rel="lightbox[6765]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6767" title="DSCN4509" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4509.jpg" alt="" width="435" height="336" /></a></p>
<div class="pin-it-btn-wrapper-shortcode "><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chimesdesign.com%2Fblog%2F2012%2F04%2F24%2Ftu-tu-tu-tuesday-wonky-log-cabin-quilt-blocks-and-a-quilt-top%2F&media=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chimesdesign.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F04%2Ftumblr_m2wnpx20kV1rt76upo1_5001.jpg&description=Weekend+Recap+%2B+Tu-tu-tu-Tuesday%3A+Wonky+Log+Cabin+Quilt+Blocks+and+a+Quilt+Top" count-layout="none" class="pin-it-button" ><img border="0" style="border:0;" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a></div>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4510.jpg" rel="lightbox[6765]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-6768" title="DSCN4510" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSCN4510.jpg" alt="" width="435" height="523" /></a></p>
<p>I&#8217;m hoping that when I get it quilted I can have an all-over pattern that matches the light pink pattern on the outside level of the wonky blocks (the one with the squids).</p>
<p><strong>Did you do anything exciting over the weekend? And what do you think of this ultra-pink quilt top? <img src='http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </strong></p>

<p>&#8230; I was on vacation in Chicago last week &#8230; but I managed to sweatshop some lovely camera/iPod/electronic cozies. They&#8217;re not quite finished, but here they are in the  making.</p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/22/what-ive-been-up-to/all/" rel="attachment wp-att-1626"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1626" title="all" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/all-300x184.jpg" alt="all" width="300" height="184" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/22/what-ive-been-up-to/zebraflower/" rel="attachment wp-att-1630"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1630" title="zebraflower" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/zebraflower-300x225.jpg" alt="zebraflower" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/22/what-ive-been-up-to/patchwork/" rel="attachment wp-att-1629"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1629" title="patchwork" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/patchwork-164x300.jpg" alt="patchwork" width="164" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/22/what-ive-been-up-to/birdies/" rel="attachment wp-att-1627"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1627" title="birdies" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/birdies-300x225.jpg" alt="birdies" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/22/what-ive-been-up-to/grey/" rel="attachment wp-att-1628"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1628" title="grey" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/grey-300x153.jpg" alt="grey" width="300" height="153" /></a></p>
<p>I decided that before I went to Chicago and to <a href="http://www.theneedleshop.net" target="_blank">The Needle Shop </a>(the highlight of my trip of course) that I had to work through the scraps I acquired last time I was there. <img src='http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> So, enter, easy peasy camera/iPod cozies.</p>
<p>Of course, these will have button closures, but this is how far I&#8217;ve gotten for now, so I thought I&#8217;d share!</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve been working through my fabric scraps and I came across the Heather Ross Mendocino scraps that <a href="http://www.awhoopdedoolife.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Adria</a> had given me a while back.  She had leftovers after making a really cool <a href="http://awhoopdedoolife.blogspot.com/2009/06/june-quilts.html" target="_blank">mendocino quilt</a>.</p>
<p>Here are a few of my favorite ones &#8230; They&#8217;re 5&#8243;x6&#8243;</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1598" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/06/mendocino-quilt-blocks/mendocino010/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1598" title="mendocino010" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/mendocino010-297x300.jpg" alt="mendocino010" width="297" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1599" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/06/mendocino-quilt-blocks/mendocino011/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1599" title="mendocino011" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/mendocino011-300x290.jpg" alt="mendocino011" width="300" height="290" /></a></p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1600" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/03/06/mendocino-quilt-blocks/mendocino012/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1600" title="mendocino012" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/mendocino012-300x297.jpg" alt="mendocino012" width="300" height="297" /></a></p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to add 5-6&#8243; of white fabric around each block to make it look like they&#8217;re floating and make a larger quilt out of these.  So excited!  <img src='http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>If you want to see all the blocks, I&#8217;ve got them posted on <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/thechimes" target="_blank">Flickr</a>.</p>
