<p>I wanted to blog about this on Monday, but I&#8217;d already posted something and my Tuesday was taken with a pre-Christmas tutorial I wanted to share. SOOOooo &#8230;</p>
<p>Today I bring you MY submissions to <a href="www.handmaderyangosling.tumblr.com">Handmade Ryan Gosling</a>.</p>
<p>For those of you who don&#8217;t follow the internets very closely, this is a newish meme that I&#8217;ve been chuckling at. Ryan Gosling is apparently attractive and the meme makes him sound like he&#8217;s a handmade craftster&#8217;s dreamy mcdreamboat dream man — not only because he&#8217;s hot*, but because he&#8217;s super sweet and winds your bobbins.</p>
<p>So here he is.</p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/guitarKnit.jpg" rel="lightbox[4702]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4704" title="guitarKnit" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/guitarKnit.jpg" alt="" width="331" height="550" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/localButtons.jpg" rel="lightbox[4702]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4705" title="localButtons" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/localButtons.jpg" alt="" width="376" height="490" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/sweaterSnuggle.jpg" rel="lightbox[4702]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4706" title="sweaterSnuggle" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/sweaterSnuggle.jpg" alt="" width="396" height="400" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/threadMarket.jpg" rel="lightbox[4702]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4707" title="threadMarket" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/threadMarket.jpg" alt="" width="446" height="630" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/UOlook.jpg" rel="lightbox[4702]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-4708" title="UOlook" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/UOlook.jpg" alt="" width="444" height="594" /></a></p>
<p>*<em>For the record, I don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s that hot. He&#8217;s not UNATTRACTIVE, but for one, he&#8217;s blonde. Not my thing. Two: He looks like my 10th grade history teacher. Or at least reminds me of him. Also, as we all know, I have rather odd taste in men. MARLON BRANDO FROM 1950 FTW.</em></p>

<p>Welcome to my much-needed new feature &#8230; FO Friday.  FO stands for finished object (as opposed to UFO — un-finished object).</p>
<p>To recap my embarrassingly long list of UFOs:</p>
<ol>
<li>Mug for a friend’s birthday present (2 weeks ago)</li>
<li>Tattoo Dish Set (July 2009)</li>
<li>mom’s pleather jacket restyle (September 2009)</li>
<li>quilt for my mom (March 2009) — in my defense, I just haven’t had the extra $75 around to get it professionally quilted.</li>
<li>coin stack quilt (March 2009)</li>
<li>Thea’s Puzzle Quilt (April 2010)</li>
<li>Roseanne Afghan (November 2007) — this project is to work on when I don’t have any other projects to work on</li>
<li>fabric scrap greeting cards (May 2010) — I have 45 blank cards left to create</li>
<li>camera cases (July 2010) —  I have 10 cases left to sew — just need to buy buttons and elastic to get them done</li>
<li>fabric scrap flowers (July 2010)</li>
<li>jeans into summer pants/shorts (July 2010)</li>
<li>Map of the states quilt (April 2010)</li>
<li>Yellow fake-esta ware dishes (July 2010)</li>
<li>Nerdy cross stitch (April 2010)</li>
<li>cookbook (December 2009)</li>
<li>Portfolio/website/resume revamp (May 2010) — don’t worry — just time for a refresh.</li>
<li>Wonky Log Cabin Quilt #1 (February 2010)</li>
<li>Wonky Log Cabin Quilt #2 (February 2010)</li>
<li>Workout/Recipe/Craft project binders (February 2010)</li>
<li>Family recipe book (January 2008)</li>
<li>ironic greeting cards (May 2009)</li>
<li>T-shirt quilt for my cousin (August 2009)</li>
<li>Fabric Frame (June 2010)</li>
<li>touch up painting my kitchen (May 2010)</li>
<li>recycled t-shirt rug (September 2009)</li>
<li>Black and white quilt (March 2009)</li>
</ol>
<p>Today&#8217;s FO is #1 — Mug for a friend&#8217;s b-day present.</p>
<p>My new coworker and friend asked me to create a mug for his girlfriend for her birthday, which was August 3. Don&#8217;t worry. I had this finished beforehand. I just wanted to save the blog post for Friday so I can have a Friday feature (and more importantly have to have some FO to share with you every week from here on out).</p>
<p><a title="Mug for a friend" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4836442024_d2f7340141_b.jpg" rel="lightbox[2372]"><img class="slickr-post" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4836442024_d2f7340141.jpg" alt="Mug for a friend" width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p><a title="Mug for a Friend" href="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/4835832497_131960dbd9_b.jpg" rel="lightbox[2372]"><img class="slickr-post" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/4835832497_131960dbd9.jpg" alt="Mug for a Friend" width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>Also, I may have lied when I said I wasn&#8217;t going to add anything to the list &#8230; if I do this Friday feature I&#8217;m going to run out of things to blog about rather quickly. Some of the things on the list aren&#8217;t going to be able to be finished in a super timely fashion because they&#8217;re either too expensive to finish or too time-consuming to finish in my spare time that quickly. So, I&#8217;m going to probably add some projects to the list. BUT instead of including the list on my blog post every week, I&#8217;ve created a <a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/my-embarrassingly-long-list-of-ufos/" target="_blank">page where it can live</a>.  There&#8217;s a link on my sidebar to it as well.</p>

<p>I made this cute baby blanket for a friend. It was really easy. I actually just used my method from <a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2010/04/11/easy-handmade-napkins-for-a-housewarming-gift/" target="_blank">handmade napkins</a> but used larger pieces of fabric.  I sewed with fleece for the first (and hopefully last) time. That was an adventure! Fuzzies everywhere.  I almost poked my eye out finishing this thing too! My needle busted in half on the very last few stitches, flying up in the air and BARELY missing my eyeball. I should maybe think about wearing safety goggles?</p>
<p>Anyway, here it is! One side is fleece and the other side is cotton. She&#8217;s having a girl.  I know she likes pinks and teals together so I picked a fabric that I thought she would like.  It seems like something she would wear on a bag, scarf or another accessory.  I hope she loves it!</p>

<p>A while back a co-worker of mine introduced me to <a href="http://www.sewzinski.etsy.com" target="_blank">sewzinski</a>&#8216;s handmade embroidered leather wallets. He had ordered one for his wife and was so excited when it was finished that he brought it in to show me.</p>
<p>I was blown away. How much time went into this little piece of art? More than I have patience for, that&#8217;s for sure. I immediately searched her out on <a href="http://twitter.com/sewzinski" target="_blank">twitter</a>, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/zinski" target="_blank">flickr</a> and <a href="http://www.sewzinski.etsy.com" target="_blank">etsy</a>.</p>
<p>sewzinski mainly focuses on custom made items. each of her creations is unique and different.  She rescues discarded leather items and renews them into beautiful little usable pieces of art.  The name &#8220;sewzinski&#8221; is in honor of her mother who loved to sew and taught her how to cross stitch and do some embroidery.</p>
<p>I pulled out some of my favorites just to show some of her beautiful work, but in no way does this represent all her creative capabilities. For that, you&#8217;ll have to check out her <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/zinski" target="_blank">flickr photos</a> (and that, I am sure, does not even represent her full artistic breadth).</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1089" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/3467646461_19a1023ce3_b/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1089" title="small wallet front" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/3467646461_19a1023ce3_b-300x222.jpg" alt="small wallet front" width="300" height="222" /></a></p>
<p>I absolutely love this little gray wallet with the flowers. Beautiful. I&#8217;m a sucker for pretty things, and this hits the spot.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1088" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/3468459456_bbb6fc7061_b/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1088" title="small wallet back" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/3468459456_bbb6fc7061_b-300x216.jpg" alt="small wallet back" width="300" height="216" /></a></p>
<p>it&#8217;s like buttah.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1082" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/2026622721_c7190bbeba_o/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1082" title="large wallet back" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/2026622721_c7190bbeba_o-300x199.jpg" alt="large wallet back" width="300" height="199" /></a></p>
<p>I actually &#8220;oohed&#8221; and &#8220;ahhed&#8221; when I came across this large wallet image. The waves on the back are oh-so-glorious. I love the attention to detail and the fact that she scalloped the edges on this one to match the shapes found in the waves.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1080" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/3750228912_435ca4c1c5_b/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1080" title="large wallet front" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/3750228912_435ca4c1c5_b-300x225.jpg" alt="large wallet front" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>

<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1083" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/3750229326_e3463ae910_b/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1083" title="large wallet inside" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/3750229326_e3463ae910_b-300x225.jpg" alt="large wallet inside" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>She picks fun fabrics for the inside of her wallet that coordinate nicely. It&#8217;s just a lovely surprise added to these creations.</p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-1081" href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/29/the-fabulous-work-of-sewzinski/3546238928_74cf3bbd3b_b/"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1081" title="sugar skull large wallet up close" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/3546238928_74cf3bbd3b_b-300x225.jpg" alt="sugar skull large wallet up close" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Beautiful sugar skull wallet. Love all the colors and patterns on this one.</p>
<p>I saved my favorite for last!  I&#8217;m also a HUGE sucker for anything punk &#8230; and in fuschia or pink or purple. Check out this awesome small wallet  — with zebra print.  Yes. I&#8217;m a sucker for animal print too!</p>

<p>LOVE it. You absolutely have to check out the rest of her work. It&#8217;s just amazing!</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve been up since 4:30 and I&#8217;ve got a few things I still need to do in preparation for Market Day.</p>
<p>I decided last Sunday to make some <a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/19/new-clutch/" target="_blank">clutches</a>.  And by some, I mean 18.  And I managed to forget to sew on a closure to 3 of them. Unlike some things I make, the closure has to be sewn as part of an earlier step in the process on these.  I decided to use a frog closure on the ones I forgot to sew the original closure on, but I couldn&#8217;t find 2 small white closures for the last 2 bags, so I&#8217;ll be finishing those later.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s my bounty of clutches/wallets/envelope purses:</p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/25/pre-market-day-jitters/all-clutches/" rel="attachment wp-att-1073"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1073" title="all-clutches" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/all-clutches.jpg" alt="all-clutches" width="461" height="323" /></a></p>
<p>and last-minute yesterday, I decided to finally mark my fabric scraps that I don&#8217;t want. I realized I didn&#8217;t want people unfolding them and such (would be utter chaos) so I used scraps of another fabric to wrap them. Most of the fabrics I&#8217;m selling don&#8217;t go with the scrap fabric I use to wrap them with, but these two looked pretty cute wrapped.</p>
<p><a href="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/2009/07/25/pre-market-day-jitters/fabric/" rel="attachment wp-att-1074"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1074" title="fabric" src="http://chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/fabric.jpg" alt="fabric" width="432" height="433" /></a></p>
<p>awwwww. adorable. <img src='http://www.chimesdesign.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />   I&#8217;m putting those on the top of the pile.</p>
<p>Anywho, gotta do those last-minute things and shower and get ready to head out. Want to get there by 7 AM.</p>

<div class="clear_none"><strong>Market Day launches May 30</strong><br />
Farmer’s market die-hards and thrift-conscious art lovers are invited to a new kind of market debuting May 30.Market Street Media Foundry is hosting a casual, monthly bazaar for art, vintage, found items and handmade goods. Dubbed “Market Day” artists and vendors are encouraged to look beyond what they traditionally retail and bring a fun and inexpensive mix of items. There will be dozens of artists and craftsters selling their wares in addition to thrift furniture items from Racoon Forks Trading Company and Mike Kinter.</p>
<p>Like a farmer’s market, patrons are encouraged to bring cash and shopping bags, though some individual vendors may accept credit cards and provide bags and packaging for larger items.</p>
<p>Market Day is the last Saturday of every month May 30 through September 26 with special dates in October and November. It will run from 9am-2pm. Market Day is located in the 120 year old Market Building at 118 SE 4th Street.</p>
