During grad school I developed a fun habit of giving myself a mani once a week. It started when I took a couple of online classes and watched the videos on Thursdays. In true Calee-fashion, I realized I could be doing something else while watching the videos, but not something that took away too much attention (I paid for those classes!).
Thus began my weekly mani ritual: Wet polish forced me to sit still and pay attention to my classes instead of finding something else to do around the house.
I’m no longer in grad school, but I’ve kept doing manis. I got used to having pretty nails. And I really enjoy the little slice of me time that my weekly mani affords me.
Now that I have a little more time for my weekly mani, I’ve tried out some more time-consuming techniques. I was all about the marble mani this summer. This week I tried an ombré (or gradient) mani. This one is much easier and less messy than the marble mani. It also gives you pretty consistent results on each nail.
I’ve been jonesin’ for black polish lately, so I went dark with this mani.
The trick is to use a makeup sponge to apply the polish. I’ve got sponges leftover from when I used to wear liquid foundation, so am glad to find a use for them.
Here are the polishes I used:
Zoya in Raven
Sally Hansen’s Salon Manicure in Cherry Cherry Bang Bang!
And OPI’s It’s My Year
