I featured Sleater-Kinney’s new release “No Cities to Love” this week. I admit that I hadn’t had a chance to listen to it, and it wasn’t until I got a post-it note reminder to listen to it from a friend (we had been working in post-its in class) that I finally listened to it. Just … just … LISTEN. If you like rock solid punk without the screamy vocals, you’ll love this album.
Additionally, if you’re a fan of Portlandia, take a listen to this album. Carrie Brownstein has been in Sleater-Kinney for much longer than she’s been on Portlandia. I’m guilty of not knowing Sleater-Kinney until after I’d seen Portlandia and loved Brownstein. Oops. I’m making up for lost time now.
Here is the entire album on Spotify.
My favorite tracks on “No Cities to Love” are “Surface Envy”, “A New Wave”, and “Bury Our Friends”. “Surface Envy” is such a badass song.
