By regularly scheduled programming, I don’t mean what I post on my blog — cuz that is never regular. I mean I’m going to try to get back to a regular fitness routine. And I’m linking up with my friend Katie to share.
I’ve been moving. There’s no doubt about that. But I’ve been struggling with the difference between soreness and injury since I’ve been dealing with a very tenacious injury (plantar fasciitis) and don’t want to have any more crop up on me since I sprained my ankle last year at this time, and then borked my knee in January (just by taking the dog outside to pee!).
So, I’ve been doing a lot of lower-impact activities, and have been really hitting the physical therapy moves hard. I remembered that most of my PT moves actually are Pilates-based, so I searched YouTube to see if they happened to have an uploaded version of the Pilates for Dummies video that I’d snagged on Napster in the early part of the century (that makes it sound like everything was black and white and crackly). It exists (and I’ll add it below), and I’ve been doing it a few times a week. I’ve also been hitting TRX class, which as it turns out, the instructor is also injured, so she is more than happy to have me modify the moves for my injuries.
But, as luck would have it, I won an entry to Tina Reale’s Best Body Bootcamp. I met Tina at Blend in 2012, and she is a pretty awesome trainer. She’s also a runner and has dealt with a lot of the same IT-band related stuff that I’ve been dealing with (it’s ALL related to my IT bands, and the fact that I have no butt muscles, just fluff). Bootcamp starts on Monday, and I am excited to see what she’s got. She’s already been in contact with me and is encouraging me to modify moves when I need to (because I’m sure she knows I get competitive!).
Here is what I have been doing this week. It’s been a major rest week for sure, and I’m planning on resting most of this weekend too because I’m traveling to Chicago for Renegade Craft Chicago with my friend Amanda to help her sell her gorgeous ceramics.
Run/walk (4 mins on, 2 mins off) for 30ish mins. Ran through the sprinklers outside!
I WAS SOAKED. Which was good because it was hot out. Don’t mind my armpit fuzz. Gross.
Drove to Minnesota, and took a walk with Mark and the dog. Lots of stretching and PT moves.
Walk with Amanda in Minnesota. Drove home.
TRX Class (60 mins) and physical therapy.
Bike 20 mins (intervals) in the AM, then bike to work and back.
Physical therapy and 30 minutes of Pilates with Amanda and the kitties. Yes. The kitties participate. By doing such fancy moves as “TV receptor block” and “under the bridge”. Here are the YouTube videos we have been using.
I realize this lady is mega-cheesy, but this video gives the basics of good form for Pilates and I used to do this workout after every run (which is probably why I used to never get injured!).
Biking home from work.

Hi there. I'm Calee (pronounced CAL-e). If that's too hard, just call me Cal. Also known as chimes or the chimes. I'm 28ish, a designer, a runner, a self-proclaimed fitness queen, a craftster, a foodie, a music snob — some might call me a hipster. Here's the unabridged version.
