Sweet Tunes Thursday: I’m an addict.
I mentioned a few Sweet Tunes Thursdays ago that I got a record player for Christmas from Mark’s parents, and it became my favorite gift ever (yes, ever! Except that time I got a dog for my birthday … Barney kind of trumps the record player).
Well, since then, I’ve become what you might call an audio enthusiast. I’m not quite at the level of an audiophile, nor am I that much of a hipster to actively call myself that. I honestly don’t give a poo if vinyl supposedly sounds better than digital. I don’t know if it does or not. What I love about vinyl is having a large piece of artwork to go with a physical copy of an album that I love. I can listen to most anything I want to for free via Spotify, YouTube, and The Current. But some albums are special, so I want a physical copy of those. CDs are plastic and lame. The cases crack and break, and the artwork is tiny and in a limited format. LPs, on the other hand, give an artist more possibilities to work with, and somehow seem to hold more permanence.
I might have gone a little overboard populating our collection. Here’s a smattering of our collection so far.
My obligatory classic rock picks.
Mark’s punk selections.
I must point out that the drummer from Slayer (far right in the big photo) looks a lot like James Franco. Or at least he did in 1982. Not so much now.

I’m kind of into 90s music.

Do you collect anything?

Hi there. I'm Calee (pronounced CAL-e). If that's too hard, just call me Cal. Also known as chimes or the chimes. I'm 28ish, a designer, a runner, a self-proclaimed fitness queen, a craftster, a foodie, a music snob — some might call me a hipster. Here's the unabridged version.

Loving the classic rock! I think we’ve got similar tastes … love me some Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush. If I had albums I’d line the walls with them. They’re so gorgeous!
I collect typography, like a typical designer (it seems). I’m not unique, haha. I really love getting the wood type, but have quite a bit more of the metal.

RUSH? There’s like 5 of us fans out there. Why do we not hang out?
Type? I could not get into collecting type. I’d be interested in seeing your collection.

I love your collection! Such good tunes.
I wish I had a cool collection to comment about. The closest thing to a collection is probably my “collection” of clothes from TJMaxx. Or stuffed koala animals. True story.

RUSH fan! Have been always will be. I have seen them 10 times in concert dating back to my 1st Rush concert in 1986 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for their Power Windows Tour. I’ve also Seen Alice Cooper 5 times! You sure do have Amazing Taste in Music…

WOO! I need to see Rush. Never have gotten the chance to. But I have seen Alice, and he’s coming around this area in the summer, so I may go see him again. SUCH a great show.
I didn’t mention that the album cover for Billion Dollar Babies was probably the coolest idea ever. It folded out like a wallet, and the LP was in a sleeve that looked like a terrible family photo.

I collected frogs for a long time. Not real ones, but carvings or figurines, etc. This started when I started teaching, so I also got a lot of brightly colored and obnoxiously decorated frog things from my students, and my mom started to buy me anything with a frog on it. I have since taken to a small collection of aprons, instead.
I don’t know if vinyl sounds better, but it does sound COOLER. As in, more awesome.
