one week down, a few years to go [ + @KINDsnacks winner]
I didn’t realize just how much I missed learning until last Monday, which was the first day of classes of my first semester of graduate school.
I take that back. I’d say I realized the day before, on Sunday, because I worked through the first 3 homework assignments for my online class that had opened that day — the day before classes started.
But come Monday, my face-to-face class was canceled due to my professor’s illness. Instead of excitement, I felt disappointed. But come Wednesday, my butt was in a front-row seat (with 3-4 empty rows behind me), and I was ready to learn.
Yes. I am that person.
On Thursday, I told Mark that I want to do grad school, and that I hope he can find a job around here. I’ve tasted it. I like it. No matter what my career goal or outcome, I am loving class. I love learning things. I love growing. So instead of grad school being a means to an end (I have to get my MFA in order to teach design to college students), it’s an opportunity to grow.
I’m taking class with my favorite professor from my undergraduate studies, and I’m probably going to turn right back into the teacher’s pet. Yeah. I’m proud of that.
PS I’m sure you’re all wondering who won the giveaway.
MY MOM, who reads daily and usually comments via facebook, text, or e-mail … and typically signs things “your mom”. We’re obviously not related …
PPS — point of pride: my mom is the mayor of my hometown.
Thanks for reading, mom!

How do you feel about school … are you in school? did you hate school? would you go back?

Hi there. I'm Calee (pronounced CAL-e). If that's too hard, just call me Cal. Also known as chimes or the chimes. I'm 28ish, a designer, a runner, a self-proclaimed fitness queen, a craftster, a foodie, a music snob — some might call me a hipster. Here's the unabridged version.

Glad you’re liking class! I also love learning, although I’m much better online than in a classroom. Can I get paid to take classes?
Also, bummed I didn’t win, but there are KIND bars on Groupon today … so it’s okay.

orly? groupon FTW!
Yeah it’s $10 for $25 of product. Have to use it online which is slightly annoying but still a good deal.

I know! I was going to hit the randomizer a couple more times because I felt like that wasn’t fair to others, but she reads every day, so why not.
PS it’s Dena (she’s the only one without the double EE).
Also, I’m kind of jealous. I miss school.
I know…. I missed school so freaking much. I made the mistake of sitting up front in Mickelson’s class, and he remembered that I was going to teach and was glad to see me, but then put me to work finding the light switch. haha.
I LOVE IT: your Mom won. lol. that’s awesome.

Denas are pretty awesome!
I need to send her a msg and let her know she won.
haha that’s awesome your MOM WON! And that she reads every day!
I wouldn’t say I’m teacher’s pet…but I do understand the feeling of being a little older and wiser and ready to learn things in class and not just goof around.

Your Mom
I can’t say much, but you know about my current wonderings and plans in life, and let me say that nothing has excited me more than the possibility of feeling what you are feeling.
