I keep mentioning that I’m going to bring you an Intuitive Eating read-a-long. Instead, in the spirit of simplifying life in 2013, I’ll be recapping main points of the book along with my thoughts when I’ve finally finished it. However, Emily is doing a great group read right now, so if you’re interested, catch up with her.

Also, I’m simplifying blogging by only writing things that I like to write. And one of the things I absolutely love to write (or fill out, rather) is a good survey.

This one comes to you from my friend Lauren, who got the idea from her friend Jenny who does one of these each month.

Current books:

I got a kindle for Christmas, so my reading habits have become nearly a vice lately. I keep track of my reads on Goodreads because that’s what the cool kids do.

I’m reading 2 textbooks for the 2 classes I’m taking (graduate-level graphic design history class and a 100-level nutrition class), as well as another nutrition book that basically refutes everything in the nutrition textbook I’m reading. Though, I’ve gotten sick of reading that one, so I’ll have to read it another time because my e-book loan will expire today.

Oh, that’s right, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is the 4th Twilight book at the bottom of this list. No, I have not read the rest of the series, and I do not plan to. But, I needed some trash to read (the same reason I’d watch 90210 or Teen Mom, but in book form), so I decided to read the last book instead of watching the movie. Because it’s more fun to make fun of a book while reading it than make fun of a movie while watching it … you know, since you’d be talking over the dialogue in said movie. (Steph, you now have permission to go nuts … it’s out there).

But, after about 30 pages, I realized it read like something I wrote as a 5th grader (true story, and I am going to post the story I wrote in 5th grade at some point), so I gave up on it and went back to reading Good Calories, Bad Calories — just in time for me to get 8% through and to have my library loan expire. D’oh.

Current music: Anything and everything by Prince, or any other Minneapolis sound band (Janet Jackson’s Control is pretty good too). I bought 1999 a couple weeks ago and cannot stop listening. I tried to get tickets to a last-minute Prince show in MN, but to no avail. But I should be getting some Megadeth on vinyl in the next couple of days, so I’m sure I’ll be snapped out of Prince and into some Dave Mustaine very soon.

Current guilty pleasure: See answer to above question. I think both of those artists count for guilty pleasures in most circles.

Current nail color: NAKED. I have some silver on my toes, but otherwise, my nails are pretty bare. And gross. I should take care of that. I managed to walk by a really great $15 gel manicure special yesterday, so I snagged one over lunch. And, coincidentally, the color I chose was called “Bella’s Vampire” (oh, Twilight, will I ever escape you?)

Current drink: Tazo Om. But I’ve become obsessed with Chai in my quest to quit sugar. So instead of having something sweet after dinner, I’ve been having a decaf chai with whole milk instead (yes. WHOLE milk. what. up.)

Current food: cacao nibs. I can’t seem to stop putting them in and on everything I eat.

Current favorite show: The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, Girls, American Horror Story, and Portlandia. I’ve seen all there is to see of the latter three shows, so Mark and I watch weekly as a new episode comes out — like in the olden days, before streaming TV (though we stream them free online anyway so we can watch at our discretion). And we just discovered Todd Margaret. It’s really hard to watch. But funny.

Current wish list: Lots, and LOTS of vinyl. And better equipment. See my pinboard if you’re wanting to purchase some for me ;)I just got a turntable and I am already way too into record collecting. Oh, and a new laptop because mine is almost dead.

Current needs: Nothing, really. Other than the need to figure out what the heck I’ll be doing fall semester, but that all depends on Mark’s job outlook, which is non-existent right  now because he still needs to graduate (LIFE is riding on you, buddy!).

Current triumphs:  I cleaned our apartment so deep that the foundation sparkles.

Current bane of my existence: Shitty half-melted dirty snow. It makes life so depressing. Either blanket the ground, or go away.

Current celebrity crush: Matt Lanter (of 90210 fame). I may have curated 2 dude-flavored pinterest boards (dudespiration — nearly naked dudes — and rawr) if you’d like to peruse.

Current indulgence: Cacao nibs.

Current blessing: Life is pretty good.

Current slang: ”Awesomesauce”

Current outfit: My favorite dress (as seen in many photos, including this adorable one of me and Kate) + jeans + emu snow boots.

Current excitement: Waiting for my financial aid to come through so I can pay back what I spent on tuition this semester (and the consequential cash back that comes on my credit card from paying tuition this semester).

Current mood: Antsy. But that’s typical.

Current link: TeuxDeux.com

And I’m adding this one, because if I ever do this again, it will be relevant since I change my hair so often.

Current hairstyle: Long enough that I can almost consider it a bob. Straight (today), with copper and blonde highlights (that aren’t as noticeable as I’d hoped).

  2. Awesome list lady. I’ve just gotten over my sickness, so I’m getting back into the swing of things. I’m sort of in this place where I don’t know what I want to do or where I want to be. I’m really lost. And while I’m anxious to find my place, I’m sort of loving the exploration right now.

Now that I’ve seen so many people mention Portlandia, I believe I need to watch. Thanks for the rec!

  4. I love surveys. I’m so stealing this one the next time inspiration strikes.

I appreciate your dedication to putting all those man pictures up. Very nice. Also, what are The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and Portlandia? I feel out of the loop.

  7. Even I, who always say, “I’m totally going to do that survey,” did this one. I love it. I might do it every month.

There are lots of things to comment on, but I’m rolling with whole milk. Now, my body in its current state of “I sometimes will let you consume lactose and sometimes not,” would probably suffer from near death if I drank whole milk, but a couple of years ago one of my farm kid students brought me fresh milk that had been taken from the cow that morning. I swear to you, it was the best thing ever. The cream on top was like ice cream it was so tasty.

    Just wanted to share.

I may or may not have eaten the “plug” of cream top in the half-and-half we just got last week with a spoon. Yes. I did that. and I just called it a “plug”.
