#fitnessfriday [4] (or rotten apples)

I couldn’t start today off without saying HAPPY FREAKING BIRTHDAY TO MY LITTLE BABY (and only) SISTER, COREE. She’s 24. So I hope that means she’s an adult now?

And happy belated birthday to her now-4-year-old daughter, my niece, the most adorable girl in the world (next to her aunt, of course), Emee!

(do you see a -ee theme here?)

So it’s FRIDAY. And I’m probably in the car as you’re reading this heading back from Indianapolis to Ames. Yay. 10 hours. Woo.

My fitness routine got derailed a bit this week because I re-sprained my ankle on Saturday and I’ve been traveling all week for work. I’ve been in Indianapolis at the National FFA Convention recruiting future students for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.

Sunday: Apple picking. Not really a fitness activity, but still fun. We were in Minnesota for the weekend since I had tickets to The Smashing Pumpkins, and we wanted to spend the weekend with Mark’s family because Mark hadn’t seen them since Easter, and I hadn’t seen them since last Christmas.

His family used to go apple picking every year, and they decided that it would be fun to go last weekend. We had a lot of fun picking what was left of the apples at Afton Apple Orchard.

Pre-apple picking silliness.

Me on the hayride (oh look … I went on a hayride AND went to an FFA event in one week! I’m so Iowan).

Though we walked all over this place, the reason apple picking wasn’t so much exercise is that we walked a little … then ate a little. Though there weren’t many good apples left on the trees. Mark didn’t think it was right to eat an apple before buying it because they’re sold by weight … and normally I’d agree with him, but then his sister pointed out that it was $3 for admissions, and apples were $1.79 per pound. So really …

Lots and lots of trees … not so many apples.

Oh, and while we’re talking about Iowa, farming, and the like — there was a cow train at the apple orchard. I did not ride, though I wanted to. Somebody (or Mark’s entire family) would have been embarrassed.

Monday: Hot yoga at Ignite Yoga

Tuesday: Rest day. I spent 10 hours in a car today … ugh.

Wednesday: 45 mins elliptical (backwards) + Laura’s Gun Show Workout

Thursday: 40 minute run around Indianapolis + leg extensions + 3 minute plank on a medicine ball + 50 pushups + 20 mins yoga stretching

Friday (planned): Rest day. In the car ALL FRACKIN’ DAY (10 hours) after working at the FFA convention all morning.

Saturday (planned): Hot yoga at Ignite Yoga + potentially a short run (depending how the ankle feels)

What did you do this week? Ever picked apples? Or pumpkins?

  1. I went apple picking for the first time ever this year. I loved it!!! 🙂 I wish I had a hot yoga studio nearby . . . that sounded good when I read that you’ll be doing that this weekend. Oh well–I have my regular yoga class tomorrow, and I’m pretty pumped about that. 🙂 Have a great weekend.

  2. You need to stay well!!! I’m glad you’re liking the workouts. Let me know if you want a good shoulder/glute routine and I’ll send you the one I sent Heather. 🙂

  3. Hope you enjoyed your convention! Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about this apple-picking thing. Might have to try it out!

  4. Oh man you make me miss heated yoga! I’ve never done HOT yoga but I do love when the room is heated and positioning myself right under the heater. 🙂

  5. I was supposed to go to the FFA convention in Indy, but we were short staffed at work so I had to miss. Booo. We could have hung out!
