MIMM [16]: life + yoga – life+running

MIMM [16]: life + yoga

I have LOTS of Marvelous going on in my Monday! Where to begin? I know: yoga.

Last week I discovered that I love yoga.

I’ve spent years hating yoga, but I’d never tried it hot. Hot yoga sounded miserable, and I already hated yoga because I’m super inflexible. I could only imagine that standing there not even able to touch my toes while the person next to me was in a flying pigeon pose in 100+° would be a new level of suckiness. I was so wrong! The added heat makes it so I can actually move into most of the poses (not flying pigeon).

I’m officially a poser. My mat and towel are on me at all times now. I haven’t felt like this since about any exercise I discovered running 10 years ago, though I came pretty close with TRX.

I even picked up a 6-month unlimited membership to Ignite Yoga in Ames, after attending 4 of their classes last week. I’m already 4 inches closer to being able to touch my toes — not even kidding! And maybe someday, I’ll be able to do something like this:

What’s even more marvelous about regularly practicing yoga? I’ve been building up my core and other muscles that help support me when I run, whilst becoming more flexible and balanced, so I don’t do stupid things like sprain my ankle again. And last night I went on my first attempted run since the injury nearly a month ago.

The fact that my average mile time hasn’t changed? MARVELOUS.

And speaking of getting my sweat on, I haven’t mentioned yet, but I’m in the latest crop of Fitfluential Ambassadors.

What does that mean? It means that I’m one of the major voices in the health and fitness community, and now I’ve got some clout behind my voice.

Aside from yoga and running, this weekend I started knitting Mark some mittens to replace his glittens that are on the way out. I used the Manly Mitts pattern from Knitty.com and did some freestyle fairisle instead of the pattern shown. Now for the hard part: making an exact match for his other hand.

And Saturday, after yoga, I checked the mail and saw that I had two $20 coupons from Finesse Salon and Spa in Ames for referring my mom and her best friend for some pedis next month. So I decided it was high time to get a pedi.

Sunday I’d planned to clean all day, but instead spent most of the day taking photos for my etsy shop, editing photos for my etsy shop, and listing items in my etsy shop. I was planning to take 1-2 hours on this, and it ended up taking me more like 8 hours from start to finish. So much for getting cleaning done! Fortunately, the beef was up for cleaning and did most of the work, leaving me with laundry. He even made me a deal: He would clean the bathroom if I did laundry. That is how much Mark hates laundry!

Either way, I have a clean apartment AND a fully-stocked etsy shop now. My shop includes items like:

What’s putting the Marvelous in your day? Sometimes just getting out of bed on a Monday is good enough!

  1. Yay for yoga! My love for yoga was recently reignited after dealing with an injury this summer. It’s so good to be back–and to appreciate it more as a result. 🙂
