This week marks the 4th year of this blog. Well, the anniversary of my blog, which has morphed a little bit throughout the last four years.
To celebrate, I bring you chimes’s rockin’ 4-year blog birthday bash extravaganza.
Fun posts? Check.
Kickass graphic of me as Courtney Love with a bass guitar (resurfacing from 2008)? Check, check, and check it out:
Why did I start this blog?
I started blogging to log my progress for marathon training in 2008. I was obsessed with running. I could not get enough of it. My original blog lived at runningchimes.wordpress.com. I even had a @runningchimes twitter account that tweeted my latest run results.
You’ll notice my blog’s original slogan is the exact opposite of the current tagline. You’ll also notice that I was a little bit emo in 2008.
When did I change to “chimesblog”?
I was left with an overuse injury after running my marathon in 2008. So in early 2009, I bit the bullet and went in for physical therapy, which resulted in a long break from running. I was pretty depressed about it and since I’m not one to sit on my ass all day, I picked up crafting to fill the time that used to be filled with running.
Since I started crafting, most of my posts became craft related. I also had more time and money to go to concerts, so I started blogging about music more often.
Since my blog quit being about running, and I was kind of all over the place, I created this short-lived header. It was a passive-aggressive stab at being annoyed that I couldn’t run anymore.
Eventually I migrated my blog from wordpress.com to the self-hosted site (where it lives today). Along with that migration came a new header, to match the header on my portfolio site.
Why the change in focus?
Since I quit running frequently and have been basically blogging about my hobbies, I didn’t really have a focus. I do everything. I blog for me, but I do like engaging in conversations with readers, so I wanted to draw in a few more readers. In March I decided to embrace my “jack-of-all-trades” personality, so I categorized all my posts and came up with a buzzword for each category. I’m trying to mix up the type of posts that I do (crafts, music, food, fitness) so that it’s not all one thing one month, and something else another month (how it was in the past).
I also realized that though I don’t run as much as I used to, it’s still a part of my life. In fact, fitness and health is a big part of my life. So I dug back into my blog’s roots and brought back the original tagline — with a twist. Instead of running being my life’s focus, it’s just a part of it, but the title makes it clear that I’m into healthy living (mentally and physically).
So that’s it!
If you have any questions … feel free to send them my way.
