Today at this time last year I lost my cousin.

Last year’s post was a whirlwind of feelings, ideas and opinions. But instead of going into a longwinded discussion of my feelings on mental illness, I’m reminding you to live life to the fullest.

It’s cliché. But my beautiful cousin taught me something on her way out: Life’s too short not to do the things you want and to pour your love into something, somebody, or somebodies you love. And no matter what, always look like you’re having a damn good time doing whatever you’re doing.

So breathe. Be glad that you’re here. Be in the moment like each one is your last.

Live. Get that tattoo. Dye your hair a funky color. Eat that piece of cheesecake. PDA with your significant other in public. Whatever whim you have, just go ahead and do it.

Love. Exude love for your family, friends and everybody else in your life.

We love you and miss you, Jackie. I think of you every day. You are a beautiful soul and I’m lucky to have you with me on every run — the wind at my heels that busts my butt to the finish.

What’s the one thing you wish you could do if nothing was holding you back?

My answer? Run another marathon, move to another state, freelance design by day and personal training by night. That was 4 things. And you know what’s holding me back (besides money) — ME.

It’s your last day at work. You’re SUPPOSED to be teary. ;) And thank you. I love that I get to carry her around with me every day. I wasn’t supremely close with my family until after this happened. I still am not super close, but I feel like I’m oddly closer to her.

  2. Thank you for the great reminders. I read your post from last year and it was hard to get through without tears.

ditto. I read it last night so I could get through today. My aunt put it well — lots of different feelings and emotions today. I wish I could be home!

You already know this, but i have to keep saying it. I’d quit my job and go back to school. What’s holding me back is my mortgage.

  4. We can never have too many reminders to live life to the fullest! This is a beautiful way to remember the life of your cousin. If it changes the life…or even just the thoughts of ONE person, it will mean everything!

The one thing I would do if absolutely NOTHING was holding me back? Quit my job, move somewhere completely random, and start classes on photography. :)

What I’d love to do is allow myself to be in a relationship. What’s holding me back? I’m still in love with my ex – even though it’s been three years.

    Yeah, I’m that girl.
